Janome Heritage: Memory Craft 4800

458-janome-heritage-4800This hard working machine became a favorite among quilters.

In 1999 the most popular names for babies were Jacob and Emily. But during that year another name was growing in popularity, especially among home dec sewists and quilters. It was “Memory Craft 4800.”

This new Janome machine had a combination of speed, power and a huge variety of built-in stitches that made it perfect for serious sewing. The MC4800 caught the notice of Craft Trends Magazine, earning the Product Excellence Award, and Consumer Reports, which also gave it high marks.

The MC4800 came with 233 built-in stitches, including new block and script alphabets. But with the ability to combine and edit the stitches, you could end up with thousands of choices. It had exclusive stitch editing capabilities, allowing you to alter width, length, needle position and elongation of memorized stitch combinations either globally or individually by pattern. And sixteen of the most popular stitches on the MC4800 could be elongated up to five-times their original size.

The stitch information was displayed on a high-resolution, iconographic backlit LCD display. This allowed you to use the machine right out of the box, without having to read through reams of instructions. Another MC4800 exclusive was the Resumption Mode feature, which allowed the machine to remember the last stitch used before it was turned off. Other favorite features were the auto-lock buttonhole, instructions in 10 different languages, and three memory bank modes that could store up to 50 custom stitches each.

Many MC4800s are still running today. But if you want to see how far Janome has come in making the ultimate quilting machine, go to your Janome dealer and try out the Horizon 7700 QCP.
